The GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Awards target community-based healthcare nonprofits in the Greater Philadelphia region that provide access to healthcare for the underserved. Up to ten organizations in Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, or Philadelphia Counties will be awarded $40,000 each.
The application process for the GlaxoSmithKline Twelfth Annual IMPACT Awards closed on July 10, 2008. The application process for the Thirteenth Annual IMPACT Awards will be available on this website beginning in late Spring 2009.
The GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Awards are designed to recognize and promote the existing work of small and medium size nonprofit organizations, which have made a demonstrable impact on access to healthcare in their local communities.
In 2008 the GlaxoSmithKline 11th Annual IMPACT Awards were given to eight nonprofit organizations from the Greater Philadelphia region. Each nonprofit was awarded $40,000 to continue their important work in the community. A judging panel made up of leading healthcare experts and GlaxoSmithKline representatives selected the winners.
Since the awards began, these community-based, healthcare-related nonprofits have been awarded more than $3 million in recognition of their success dealing with diverse and difficult health issues such as access to care, family counseling, genetic disorders, dental health, breast health, aging and chronic diseases.
In addition to access to healthcare, the selection criteria for the Awards include commitment to serving people in need; facilitating access to healthcare delivery, education, creative partnerships, and policy development; and demonstration of a solid record of achievement, management and leadership.
"As the number of uninsured Americans continues to grow, we are continually challenged to provide high quality, comprehensive healthcare services for those who, due to low-incomes, are unable to pay for their care. The GSK IMPACT Award not only recognizes our contribution to the community, but provides significant funding for us to continue our mission." - quote from former GSK IMPACT Award winner.
Further information about the work of the most recent winning organizations is available in the GSK Eleventh Annual IMPACT Awards profile booklet (PDF 1.40MB).
Child Health Recognition Awards Program
As a company committed to fighting and preventing disease, we are pleased to sponsor the Child Health Recognition Awards Program. Showcasing exceptional, innovative programs that improve the lives of children, these awards provide a unique opportunity to recognize and reward those who dedicate their lives to improving the health of our children.
This program began in North Carolina in 1994 as a response to low immunization rates in the state. We wanted to help find answers to this critical problem, and discovered that a number of successful programs were already underway across the state—but local efforts were seldom known beyond their county borders. The Child Health Recognition Awards program fosters the sharing of ideas by publicizing great work being done in public health. Since 1994, the program has celebrated excellence in all areas of public health; and in 2001 the first national award was presented at the American Public Health Association's annual meeting.
