Publish product donations valued as average cost of goods
GSK has implemented a new approach to valuing donations as average cost of goods rather than the wholesale acquisition cost. Effective December 1, 2008.
New commitments to fight HIV/Aids in Sub-Saharan Africa
GSK announced in July 2009 that it intends to invest up to £50 million over 10 years to try to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa. GSK will also partner with other Pharma companies to create new medicines for children and adults living with HIV/Aids.
Policy on pricing for Least Developed Countries
GSK is reducing its prices for patented medicines in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) so they are no higher than 25 per cent of the price in the developed world providing this covers the cost of goods. Effective April 1, 2009.
Reinvest profits in healthcare infrastructure
GSK will reinvest 20 per cent of profits made from selling medicines in LDCs to support the strengthening of healthcare infrastructure in these countries. Effective April 1, 2009.
Implement a more flexible approach to IP for medicines for neglected tropical diseases
GSK will partner with other pharmas and biotech companies that have patents developed to treat diseases that are prevalent in developing countries. Effective March 24, 2009.
Report payments to US healthcare professionals for conducting research
Starting in 2011, GSK will disclose payments made in 2010 to Healthcare professions and institutions in the US.
Post Observational studies, meta-analyses and studies of terminated compounds on the GSK Study Register
This posting supplements communication in journals, at scientific meetings, in letters to healthcare professionals, and in approved prescribing information. Effective January 1, 2009.
Publish all clinical research results in the scientific literature
GSK will publish all clinical research of its medicines either as manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals or, when studies are not published, provide context and interpretation on the GSK Clinical Study Register. Effective January 1, 2009.
Report clinical trial investigator names and institutions
GSK will publish the names of investigators in GSK-sponsored clinical trials and the institutions they are working in, on registers of clinical trial protocols for studies starting January 2009.
Alnylam joins patent pool for neglected tropical diseases
Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced July 8, 2009, that it will contribute more than 1500 issued or pending patents on its RNA interference (RNAi) technology patent estate to the patent pool established by GSK earlier this year.
